Cosmic Child Horoscope
November 2005
by ERIC FRANCIS

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Finally, finding and appreciating peers has moved to the top of the Aries playlist, and that may include a love affair or the discovery of a new group of friends. You may have other ideas about how this is a time for learning responsibility, but I assure you that for a young person, this is responsibility of the first order. While there are likely to be some struggles with fitting in, the sooner those are actually begun, the sooner they are resolved. Still, it often takes a long time to discover a true sense of purpose, which at the moment is one and the same as having friends (a kid's equivalent of colleagues).

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
A humanitarian streak is one quality that makes Taurus most distinctly what it is, and I trust that at the moment, this will be apparent no matter what age we're talking about. But there is something else going on -- a desire to reach the highest possible idea of what it means to be human. Don't laugh at ambitious ideas, long-term plans or desires, or what may come across as a desire to save the world. It's all possible, it's all real, and you are much of the source of their inspiration. Remember this at every moment. Keep your own ideals clearly in sight; you are evidence that this is the right way to live.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
There is a moment approaching when your Gemini child takes on the role of protector or guardian in your life, or that of someone he or she is close to. That it happens is inevitable, and it involves something of a radical maturing process. Your part is approving of the development. To do so, you must first notice that it's occurring, and then you need to figure out how to relate your endorsement. It may be in words, or it may be making yourself available in a supporting role. Work with the whole theme: we can consciously work to make the world safe for each other, and as a result, it really is.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Too often it seems that matters of self-esteem are decided before the age of two, and that nobody had a clue the damage was even being done. Be aware of a mixed signal that you may be sending, which is that you're a devoted parent but one who may arbitrarily withdraw your approval. Keep your messages clear and remember that there is very little you actually need to disapprove of. This is a deeply sensitive time for young ones born under the sign Cancer, and what they need are positive reminders that they are not alone -- reminders which you alone can give with any real credibility.

Leo (July 22-Aug 23)
Thankfully, some of the pressure to grow, to become and to be real has come off of Leo. Remember that much of what they are perceiving is the need to conform and do things right. They've been expecting to be pushed harder than they are pushing themselves, which is entirely unrealistic. You could help by finding ways they can take life less seriously, and to provide the example of someone a bit rebellious. The message that you can send, by showing and not telling, is that even when you're totally different than the people around you, they still love you. Forget that most of us were not treated this way; it's never too late to change the world.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
It happens rather often that Virgo children wind up as the un-children in the family. Their intelligence, their unique ability to focus and most of all their self-effacing quality all make them the perfect servants of the situations that surround them. Would you please call a moratorium on this for a while? They're currently living with pressure that you may not be able to name, or even be able to see. You may not be able to reassure them totally, but you can provide both shelter from the sense of responsibility that dominates their lives, as well as a source of distraction. Holidays are a good time to keep kids' minds off of what they perceive as reality.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
A measure of self-obsession is healthy. True, Libras are typically more concerned with their environments than they are about their own needs. But at the moment, there is a kind of internal moment when their feelings, desires and deep questions are more important than anything going on around them. Libra children, including the really big ones, are craving some kind of experience they absolutely want or need. Find out what it is, and make it possible. The chances are it will prove deeply meaningful for their whole lives, and be a heck of a lot of fun for you and for them.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Do we ever pause to wonder why adult Scorpios turn out the way they do? Maybe it has something to do with how power and confrontation are handled when they're little. Lessons on these two topics come on fast and strong in the coming weeks, and in reality the energy has been hanging around for a while. You may be regretting how you handled certain situations in the lives of young Scorpios around you. But you can just chalk certain incidents up to learning. As Scorpio Neil Young said to all adults on behalf of all kids, "You make the rules, you say what's fair. It's lots of fun to have you there."

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)
There are real changes coming in the lives of all Sagittarians. I would say that, at the least, they are in the process of making discoveries about their power, which in a sense means their power in relationship to you. This is not exactly a standoff but it is what you might call the exercise of healthy rebellion. It's not exactly their typically fair-minded nature suddenly taking on shades of darkness as it is the realization that there's a world within them they never previously noted -- a world in which you don't quite factor.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
Is this a good time to remind parents of Capricorns that with few exceptions, their birthdays get lost in the sauce of the holidays? This is a busy time of year for everyone, made all the more intense by various cosmic forces that speed time up to its utmost. So slow down. I suggest you take an entire day out and off and away from the usual bustle to make sure that young goats get the message that they are important, having nothing to do with Christmas trees or Hanukah bushes. Make sure the holiday gifts are clearly distinct from birthday gifts, as part of which process it would help if both were particularly impressive.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Love is beyond meaning or definition, but Aquarians are in the process of understanding themselves in the context of what they think love is. I dare to say that even the youngest among them are, at this point in the astrological cycles, aware that it's far greater than a personal force. But this seemingly abstract factor is about to become deeply personal, and human love will count a lot more than divine. For all practical purposes, the love that children receive from parents and caregivers is God's love. Make sure it's given without condition or hesitation, and make sure they understand that all feelings are inherently okay.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Maybe if Pisces people were more noticeable, others would figure out that they know something most others do not. That something, however, will be impossible to miss, and it involves a certain cosmic truth that's a lot more obvious when we're young. You have a lot to learn from your Pisces child this month about the meaning of love, and the relationship between human love and what some adults call God's love. Most of the relevant and even deeply moving information comes through in the form of dreams. Be gentle, and keep it simple, but feel free to ask.
