Cosmic Child Horoscope
May 2005
by ERIC FRANCIS

Aries (March 20-April 19)
To a great extent, language is the means by which we define our reality. Be careful of what words you use around young Aries people this month, because they are not just listening; they are making decisions based on what they hear. The way you say things sets limits, or opens the way past limits. Listen carefully to the particular way they express themselves if you really want to know what is going on. There will be clues in their choice of words, tone of voice, and the way that their ideas and arguments are structured. Good reading material would make an excellent gift.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
To the extent that there are boundaries lacking between mind and emotions, now is a good time to learn the territory. How we feel is different than what we think. Yet in many ways the two influence one another. If you're working to sort out a family situation, this might be a place to look at things in a theoretical (rather than blame-oriented) way. Words and ideas are likely to come easily now. Keeping the emotional charge off of things would help; there is a lot you can do in support of this. Really, there needs to be no pressure on anyone. Just a clear space to live and breathe.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Gemini is laughably famous for having two personalities. It's virtually proof of the validity of astrology. But few people around a Gemini have the patience to get to know both of those people intimately. Take the time. Don't say what you're doing. Remember that human nature is, in general, dualistic, and what Gemini kids of all ages teach us is that this is both healthy and necessary. It's liberating for everyone to move through this territory with experience and compassion, because by doing so we learn how not to be in conflict with ourselves. Keep talking, and keep laughing.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
It's not always obvious that there are two ways to look at the world -- but there are. The less obvious it is, the more energy needs to be put into this one vital spiritual teaching. How we see and experience the world is based on choices; perception is an ongoing decision for how we evaluate what our senses and feelings present us with. This is, of course, an occult truth. The world denies it abjectly. Your job is to see that truth and to pass it onto those who are learning from you. And in times when the question may surface in its more obvious form, you can help make that decision together.

Leo (July 22-Aug 23)
Friends play a vitally important role in the life of your young Leos, particularly female friends. There seems to be quite a lot of exploration of sex roles unfolding; decisions about who and what they are made of; and the notion that we do in fact have a choice of how we express ourselves. The less you interfere the better. They are well looked after, and truly need a measure of independence that they can only find in their peers. It is true that there are ups and downs to all relationships, and you don't know someone till you know them. But these are learned from experience only.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
The theme of the month is ethics. Ethics is a word that comes from the Greek word ethos , which is the living spirit of truth -- and considered the greatest attainable good. Virgo charts this month are soaked with the idea that aspiration and goodness need to be closely related. We can only go so far as our sense of right and wrong allows us to go. This is based on experience, and experience usually comes with mistakes. If you live as if mistakes are fine, as long as we know we make them, then it will be easier for everyone else to do so as well.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
Everyone has a special place in life; that's the message for the long-term growth of any Libra child. What everyone needs to remember is that while it can take some time to find that place, we really need to make sure we enjoy the journey and not get hung up on the destination. At this point, the theme is really about exploring, getting the sense of how different experiences feel, and seeing what moves more or less easily. Often, we teach children that what's important is what we accomplish. We need to teach that what we have to offer the world truly means far more.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
This is a fine time to teach and learn negotiation skills. They may come quite naturally to Scorpio children, who may have a few things to teach you. In any event, I suggest that the issue be kept on the table, and that the difference between verbal agreement and emotional manipulation be made abundantly clear. The patterns we learn when we're young carry with us throughout our lives, whether this is in large or small ways. Make sure you play fair, because at this stage of life, you're the one who's making the rules.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)
Someone said to me in an email today, "Relationship is a myth. There is only relating." This is a most beautiful way to express what everyone born under the sign Sagittarius has to learn this month. So practice relating, practice the skills of communication that make relationship possible; learn to state your feelings, and to let the young people around you do so. If you feel safe hearing what's on their heart or mind, they will feel safe having the experience. And that blend of safety and communication goes a long way.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
I would not be surprised if five-year-old Capricorns have been talking about marriage in recent seasons, or other forms of enduring relationship. Now, the realities of what it means to be devoted may be sinking in. This could be about devotion to anything from a pet, to school, to being a member of a family. Being as earnest and serious minded as they are, Cap children will thrive on the idea that devotion is important -- as long as you don't make it into a burden. Carry a bit of that devotion for them, and show them it's really easy when you do it with love.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Chiron in Aquarius is certainly giving your child a push, and those Aquarians born in January are likely to be feeling it all the more. The issue really comes down to this. Young Aquarians are looking for affirmation that they actually exist, and they will need to go to far less extreme lengths to demonstrate this if you provide some of that affirmation for them. They may have needs they are not articulating or that you are not noticing. They may have the idea that they matter far less in this world than they do. At this point, you could not overstate the case that they are the center of your world.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
Energy is the word of the month -- Mars is in Pisces. This is not necessarily the most comfortable transit in the world, but Pisces will thrive on the power boost, and the push to their creativity. This may, in turn, push you a bit, but life would be boring without those who dare to have their imagination running 27 hours a day. The important thing for everyone to remember is that there comes a time when enough is enough. Mars in Pisces usually feels that a little more than enough is just enough, which is fair. Then, easy does it for a while.
