Cosmic Child Horoscope
July 2005
by ERIC FRANCIS

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Saturn changes signs this month, and this will have a strong effect on both adults and children of a number of signs. For Aries, Saturn moves into the solar 5th house, where we want to have fun, take chances and fall in love. Saturn is generally not seen as supportive of these experiences, unless we remember that we can't really enjoy ourselves in life unless we have a little discipline. Yet there are those who will respond with so much discipline that life becomes no fun at all. Take it easy and please be realistic. Remember who you're talking to, and what you went through at that age. And have some fun yourself. You need it.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
If Taurus children and teens are taking steps away from their family origin, you can trust that this is exactly what needs to happen. They cannot exactly pack up and move to Canada, so the space they will take is emotional. Conflicts with fathers are not inevitable, but I would call them well within the range of normal. Most people struggle with their family upbringing because they cannot sever themselves from it; they never make the break. It's best if this happens in degrees, so if those degrees are beginning to add up now, let it flow. There is no love lost, just awareness gained.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Notice how exciting ideas are and the young Gemini in your life is likely to pick up the rhythm. But more to the point, this is the time to put ideas to work, and bring them into reality. Rather than talk, why not do something? Experiments can start small, but they will be valuable. Make sure there is a commitment involved, that is, an understanding that what's developing will really come to fruition in the long run. This is an excellent way to learn focus, devotion and commitment. You'll be the one setting the example, so be persistent, and remember the old story of the turtle and the hare.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
This is the time in life for sorting out what is important. The coming two years or more will be a monumental time in the lives of all Cancerians, young and old, for seeing the truth about what matters the most, and what does not matter at all. This will particularly be true in relationships, which are the one and only place we learn self-esteem. You can help by emphasizing what makes a difference, and living your life as if this is so. In fact, with young people, the jury is usually still out until your example is clear. Respect yourself and they will learn to do the same.

Leo (July 22-Aug 23)
Leo children will grow up fast this summer, and you can be glad of it. Encourage them to make their own decisions. If there is one skill that we need as an adult, it's the ability to choose. But make sure that other aspects of adulthood are not piled on their heads. Be conscious of burdens they may be carrying, and make sure you're sensitive and aware enough to gently lift them from their hands. Remember that your example is supreme in their lives. They are looking to your own choices, and how you handle the responsibilities of living. And they will some day do as you do.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Remember that for a child, no ambition is too great, and what children dream almost always goes beyond the actual accomplishments of adults. Your job is to keep the dream-field open, rather than cluttering it with practical reality. This can be a big challenge for adults who have compromised their lives by choices that were less than perfect, and most of us have. How you live with those choices today is a vital part of what you teach as a parent. Being welcoming of the fact that young people may go far beyond your achievements would be beautiful.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
Love is here to express. Children are great at this; by the time adolescence sets in, love is usually a kind of frightening taboo. There is, at the moment, plenty in the way of loving and supportive energy to express, and you can both lead the way, and make the environment safe for your Libra child to do so. At this point in their lives, what Libra kids (and in reality, adults) are seeking is experience. They need to physically, actually take the trip, and they are both aware of this, and aware of the potential frustrations of not being able to do so. Please lift as many of those limits as you can.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
When the Sun is in Cancer, many Scorpios feel unusually alive and like they have a place in the world. This is in contrast to the usual deep inner search that characterizes this sign the other 11 months out of the year. This is a good time to ease off on the discipline, goal setting and guidance toward maturity. The time for that will come soon enough, and you can be sure it will come directly from any of the Scorpios you've got in your life -- no matter how young. A period of intense growth and achievement is ahead. For now, let there be ice cream.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)
Sagittarians of all ages tend to have a startling level of spiritual awareness. Your job now is to make sure that they keep an open mind. It may be that certain pressing matters are weighing on their otherwise free spirits. What you can do to preserve that freedom is to remind them that on this planet, the jury is just about always out. Specific events, ideas, philosophies and beliefs do not need to be the basis by which all of reality is judged. And whether we feel safe is always a matter of faith -- which for now may come more easily to you than them.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
You may not like or even understand what's going on in your Capricorn kid's circle of friends. There may be influences you feel are far from wholesome. I do suggest you step back and remember two things. One is how responsible your child is. The second is how much experimentation you did as a child -- you did plenty, and would only be worse for not having gone there. So while you have every right to keep an eye on things, please interfere as little as possible. There is more going on than you realize, which is exactly how it needs to be for now.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Aquarius children are likely to be expecting you to hold up every end of every bargain. You have little choice, if you want to set the example that will make them responsible and sane members of the planetary family. Make sure that your word is as good as gold; make sure they know how seriously you take your commitment to them. This may seem like an odd position to be in with a child, but what's really happening is that they are learning the words and the feelings associated with solid, sober living -- no matter how young or old they may be.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
This is a good time to be attentive to all matters of health in the lives of Pisces, both kids and adults, by the way. Check for their level of vitality; beware of the possibility that they may feel a bit under the weather. It may be time for a rest from the constant activity of summer -- but the real thing you want to watch for is that their fears don't get the most of them. Keep an eye on this one. What is going on in the physical realm is always connected to what's going on in the psychic realm. Ask questions, look carefully at what they draw and write, and a few times a week, ask them what they dreamed.
